When I woke up to the news that Matt Lauer had lost his job amid allegations of sexual assault, I found myself in tears. Where is the moral compass of these people? Why do they commit these acts? In some ways, Matt had been lying to everyone around him. But more than that, I couldn’t help but wonder if he’d forgotten how to love himself? Or never knew what that felt like in the first place.
Savannah Guthrie made the announcement: “I know this reckoning that so many organizations have been going through is important. It’s long overdue. And it must result in workplaces where all women, all people, feel safe and respected. As painful as it is, this moment in our culture, and this change, had to happen.”
We seem to be in the midst of all of these dark secrets coming to light. You might think your secrets won’t see the light of day, but what happens when you go against your own moral code? You become a slave to the secrets. You will do anything to not have them revealed.
It’s really simple—don’t do anything that goes against your moral code. How do we heal and move forward from sexual assault in the workplace or anywhere? We love, we heal, and we keep shining a light in the dark corners to reveal the secrets until we can one day live in a world full of truth.
